I'm sure that I am not the only one here who is obsessed with
Harper Goff's classic Nautilus design from 20,000 Leagues...
A few years ago I bought a 31" long resin miniature of the
Nautilus from a company that specializes in movie replicas, called
Master Replicas.
Their Nautilus is said to be the most accurate and detailed
reproduction of this craft ever offered to the public. You get all
19,000 rivets, a complete Wheelhouse interior, removable Skiff,
propeller, rudders, anchor and all those nasty, destructive "rakers."
As you can understand, MP's Nautilus wasn't on sale for long.
I'm amazed that I was able to grab one!
Why am I telling you all this you ask? (And why did I just
mimic Jim Hill?) Well, I just received an email from the company that
announced that THE NAUTILUS IS BEING REISSUED!
You can pre-order it now from "masterreplicas.com" The cost is
$499.00. Just type in "Nautilus" in their search window.
Take it from me- IT IS WORTH THE MONEY!!

Thanks for the heads up Trav.

The MR Nautilus is in fact very nice though it is not the most
accurate ever made. The MR version along with virtually all others
ever made (including a custom made one I have) were made from the blue
prints of the Nautilus you often see around on eBay and other places.
In reality the Nautilus from the movie was not completely made from
those blue prints. In fact the various boats used in the movie
(obviously they made many of them depending on scale and usage) do not
even match each other. The full sized version which is only seen from
the top deck up has a different design in many ways from the smaller
full boat versions seen underwater and so on. Several years back
during the films 50th anniversary Disney released a bunch of limited
edition 20K collectables. Chief among them was a Nautilus which
combined the various boats seen in the movie to make the single most
accurate one ever. One of the biggest flaws is in the arched raker
which in the prints is a different angle than the ones in the movie...
only this Disney version has that correct, and so on.

Yes, more meaningless trivia I know... BTW, the full scale Nautilus
docked at TDS gets it right and is VERY cool.

MR explains that two experts in the Nautilus, Scott Brodeem
and Theo Wilhelm, helped to make this replica accurate. The result
combines all the designs used in the film.

So, it WAS flawed, yet a perfect replica? Huh?

Well the fact is that there really cannot be a PERFECT single replica
because there were many DIFFERENT designs actually used in the film.
But the one that DIsney released for the 50th is the closest there has
been to what is seen on screen most of the time.

Now it is possible that the MR version is one in the same as the
Disney version. Disney has hired MR in the past...but I doubt that is
the case here.

Either way it is a nice model for sure.
